Lawrence Boast Ten Local Eateries In The Top 35 List

Everyone has a favorite place to grab a bite to eat, but which Kansas restaurants have the
most fans? To find out, the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association (KRHA) conducted an online survey with more than 500 Kansan’s who were asked one simple question, ‘What is your favorite Kansas based restaurant that isn’t a chain?’ The results have been compiled and released as ‘ Top 35 Non-Chain Restaurants in Kansas .’

“We were pleased when watching the results roll in and being reminded that Kansan’s have so many wonderful locallyowned restaurants to choose from,” said Adam Mills, CEO of KRHA. “Running a successful restaurant is not easy, but the members of this list of favorites are certainly proof of how rewarding it can be.”

#1 Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que #2 Free State Brewery #3 The Burger Stand

The number one overall choice among Kansans, and the only barbecue restaurant on the list, was Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que. Second place went to the Lawrence staple, Free State Brewery, followed by it’s neighbor along Mass Street and Topeka favorite, The Burger Stand. The Anchor Inn in Hutchinson rounded out the top four.

Lawrence was the city with the most restaurants on the list with ten. Wichita and Kansas City tied for second with six apiece. Hutchinson with three, and Hays, Topeka & Salina each with two on the list of 35.

In terms of cuisine, American food was widely represented with 18 restaurants on the list. The second most popular cuisine was Mexican (12); followed by Italian (4). The only restaurant outside of these three categories was a Cajun restaurant, Terrebonne in Lawrence.
